John Martin, the librarian, wrote a scathing report on Chalgrave Church, signing with the initials W.A. Woburn Abbey. He visited the church in 1846 and described the dormer or attic windows as 'Three attic windows of the worst description made in the roof of the nave. Bad enough to view inside but greatly disfiguring the exterior aspect of the church.' The windows were removed in 1861/2.
Inside the church are wall paintings, I photographed in 2012.
